No Clean Feed

The stated intent of Senator Conroy's "Cleanfeed" is to keep the net nasties at bay. The vast majority of Australians, including us at Lucid Web Design would like to see an internet free ofthings such as child pornography, phishing scams etc. The question is, is there a realistic way of acheiving that goal? Sadly, the answere is no. There is no single magic bullet solution for this problem.

Senator Conroy's proposed mandatory filter will not fixthe problems of the net. Our concers are:

It may lull people into a false sense of security.

No filter is perfect and there will always be innocent sites that will be blocked.

The list of banned sites is secret. There is no way to tell if you are on it. How can you appeal your listing on a secret list? It makes no sense.

Does Australia really need to be in the same company as China, Saudi Arabia and Iran with regard to internet censorship?

It is far too easy to by pass the filter. So the filter is a useless waste of taxpayer money.

Why did the Government cut funding to Australian Federal PoliceOnline Child Sex Exploitation Team in 2008?

Google Adwords Phishing Scam

We recently received an email asking us to to update our Google AdWords. This is clearly a phishing scam that has nothing to do with Google. This makes a change from the regular banking or eBay ones we get.

The link says http://adwords.google.com/select/login while it really points to http://www.adwords.google.com.0lks.cn/select/Login. Note the extra bit in the URL.

Don't get caught out.

The message reads below.
The Advantages of Drupal

It is easy to use & update

You can update your own site when you want - where you want - without fuss. No need to get your web designer to do it for you. Using a properly configured WYSIWYG editor like TinyMCE, you can even paste content from Word and have it take out all those tag peculiar to MS Word.

Value for money

Drupal is open source software, so you don't need to pay any licensing fees or development costs.

Reliable & Secure

Drupal has an extensive and active community supporting it. It is constantly being improved and is subject to extensive testing so you can count on it to be rock solid.

Search-Engine Friendly

It can be configured for friendly URLs. Content output is designed to be standards compliant which will not not help boost your search engine rankings but be accessible as well.

Modular and Extendible

You can add extra features like blogs, forums, e-commerce and calendars if you wish. There are multitudes of third party modules to choose from to extend Drupal.

Melton South Community Centre Revamp

The Melton South Community Centre did have a free website which was put together as part of the Federal government's “Work for the Dole Program”. The site was not particularly up-to-date and had a few other problems. It was time for an overhaul. Drupal came to the rescue.

Content Management Systems

Content Management Systems or CMS are software systems that allow users or groups of users to update content on a web site.

Do you want to update your site regularly with new articles and information?

Will your site be updated by several users and be able to keep track of changes?

Do you want to have online product catalogues or shopping carts?

Do you want to use your site to keep a group/community of users informed?

If you answered yes to any of those questions then chances are you will need a CMS.
