No Clean Feed
The stated intent of Senator Conroy's "Cleanfeed" is to keep the net nasties at bay. The vast majority of Australians, including us at Lucid Web Design would like to see an internet free ofthings such as child pornography, phishing scams etc. The question is, is there a realistic way of acheiving that goal? Sadly, the answere is no. There is no single magic bullet solution for this problem.
Senator Conroy's proposed mandatory filter will not fixthe problems of the net. Our concers are:
- It may lull people into a false sense of security.
- No filter is perfect and there will always be innocent sites that will be blocked.
- The list of banned sites is secret. There is no way to tell if you are on it. How can you appeal your listing on a secret list? It makes no sense.
- Does Australia really need to be in the same company as China, Saudi Arabia and Iran with regard to internet censorship?
- It is far too easy to by pass the filter. So the filter is a useless waste of taxpayer money.
- Why did the Government cut funding to Australian Federal PoliceOnline Child Sex Exploitation Team in 2008?
